The Iraqi government provides support to their families and relatives by issuing an identity document that grants them various advantages related to pensions, education, retirement, and more, as per the Martyrs Foundation Law No. 2 of 2016 and its amendments.

What are the advantages of this document?
As the holder of this ID, you and your family are entitled to all the rights and privileges outlined in the Martyrs Foundation Law No. 2 of 2016 and its amendments. Here are the benefits explained briefly:
- You will receive a retirement salary, and families of martyrs can combine two salaries.
- You will have priority in employment and transfer opportunities between ministries.
- There is an exception to the Public Retirement Law that allows for the extension of the legal retirement age up to 65 years.
- The families of martyrs are given a 5% priority status when applying for Hajj and Umrah rituals.
- You and your family will be exempt from fees for evening studies, and eligibility premiums will be reduced.
- You will have a 10% priority when applying for undergraduate and postgraduate studies.
When can I apply for the IDs for the families of martyrs?
You can obtain this ID within a period of 4 to 2 years, depending on your specific situation. The exact date will be determined by the judge in court. For example, if someone goes missing, they are officially considered deceased after 4 years from the announcement of their disappearance. In cases such as the Speicher massacre or the Karrada bombing, the waiting period is 2 years from the date of the disappearance announcement.
What are the steps to obtain the IDs for the families of martyrs?
1. You can apply online on the website of the Directorate of Martyrs' Families by clicking here, or visiting the nearest office based on your geographical location.
2. You will be required to provide your general information and the martyr's information as shown in the attached image.
3. You can select the appropriate martyr category, where number 1 represents families of martyrs before the events of 2003, number 2 is for families of martyrs from the Popular Mobilization Forces, and number 3 is for families of victims of military operations and military errors covered by Law (57) of 2006.
- If you fill out the form at home, you can only extract the code and inquire about the form when you visit the Martyrs Directorate. Alternatively, you can print the document, sign it, provide fingerprints, and extract the code. After that, you can proceed to the Traffic Directorate to complete the remaining procedures.
4. The following documents will be required:
- A copy of the Unified National ID or Civil Status ID for the applicant's relationship with the martyr (father, son, daughter, brother, sister).
- A copy of the Heirs deed with the Unified National ID or Civil Status ID for the applicant's relationship with the martyr (mother, wife).
- If you are a grandchild of the martyr, you should provide the Civil Status ID or national card of your mother, along with the ID card or National ID of the martyr's grandchildren from the mother's side. If they are grandchildren of the martyr from the father's side, they should provide the ID card or National ID of the father. This requirement specifically applies to political martyrs and members of the Popular Mobilization Forces.
- Two colored photos for the applicant.
5. Then the officer will refer you to the finance department to pay the fee, which is 15,000 Iraqi dinars.
6. There is no specific appointment for completing the ID, and the person who owns the ID should personally visit the directorate to receive it.
Note: Any person in the family can apply for themselves and the rest of the family members, with their relevant documents attached.
